What We Do.

Great question! While both options provide support through your Regional Center, there are some key differences in how services are chosen and managed.
Here’s a simple comparison:
Traditional Services (Standard Regional Center Option):

ILS focuses on skill-building in the home. CIS is designed for skill-building in the community.
ILS services are primarily designed for adults 18 and older who are working toward greater independence in their daily lives. If the individual is under 18 and needs skill-building support, AST may be a more appropriate service.
It varies, but many families start with a consistent weekly schedule that supports routine-building and progress.
We can support skill-building and routines that reduce frustration and increase independence. If specialized behavioral support is needed, we collaborate with the team and follow the participant’s plan.

Services may take place in the home or in community settings, depending on goals, safety considerations, and the approved service plan.
Goals are developed through intake assessment, review of existing documentation (such as IPP), and collaboration with the participant and their support team. Objectives are structured and measurable.
If funded through Regional Center or the Self-Determination Program, AST must align with the participant’s IPP and approved service plan. Private-pay services do not require Regional Center approval.
Progress is reviewed regularly through observation, documentation, and team collaboration to ensure services remain aligned with meaningful outcomes.
No. AST is focused on structured skill development. Services are designed to teach and reinforce independence rather than provide unstructured supervision.
AST focuses on practical life skills and independence within daily routines. While structured teaching strategies may be used, AST is designed specifically around functional skill development and real-world application.
We provide AST services for individuals ages 7 and older. Services are tailored to developmental level and individualized goals rather than age alone.
AST is structured, goal-based support designed to strengthen everyday skills such as communication, daily routines, organization, community participation, and decision-making. Services focus on building independence through guided instruction and real-life practice.

Absolutely. Here’s a sample scenario:

His family is focused on building independence and community engagement. We provide in-home life skills training (like meal prep and hygiene routines), adaptive fitness, and weekly community outings to local libraries, parks, and stores. Our staff use gestures and visual supports to help Owen communicate and build consistency.
